Local MP Tessa Munt was very pleased to be joined by Simon Hughes, MP for Southwark & Bermondsey and Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats, to Somerset this weekend.
Simon spoke at a packed Wells Constituency annual dinner in Wedmore, speaking with wit and eloquence about his service to the people of Southwark & Bermondsey for almost 30 years, since his by-election in 1983. Several diners pointed out that they had worked to get Simon elected at that time.
Welcoming Simon back to Somerset, Tessa said “I am delighted that Simon was able to join us for our annual dinner and that we had such a great turn out again. Simon is a well-respected politician with wide experience, and has served the Party as President in the past, and as deputy to Nick Clegg since 2010.”
Simon said “I was delighted to return to meet old friends and new, and to enjoy the unique West Country hospitality here. I always enjoy getting out of London and having the opportunity to discuss matters with Lib Dem members and supporters, and with members of the public, several of whom stopped me for a chat on Saturday morning in Wells High Street while Tessa was doing her surgery. I’ll be back again soon, I’m sure!”
