Tessa Munt MP welcomed Vince Cable, Secretary of State at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), to Somerset last Thursday.
As Vince’s Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS), Tessa was keen to welcome Vince back to Somerset so local businesses had the chance to meet him and ask questions.
The day started with a visit to Glastonbury Spring Water followed by Strode College where Vince launched the Unistats University comparable website, http://unistats.direct.gov.uk/ where students can check the merits of different Higher Education Colleges and Universities. Following some discussions with students he moved to the annual lunch of the British Holiday & Home Parks Association at Brean Leisure Park.
Highbridge was the setting of a Q&A with business people and then it was off to Haley Engineering Ltd in East Brent, site of a recent factory expansion and finally VADO, a Cheddar firm recently awarded the Queens Award for Enterprise.
Tessa said, “I was keen for Vince to not only have a chance to meet local students and business people but also to show off our impressive variety of successful companies. It was a great opportunity for Somerset businesses to give him feedback ’’
Vince said “I had a wonderful time in Tessa’s patch, meeting exceptionally knowledgeable and successful business men and women. It was great to get more of an insight into the array of businesses that make up Somerset’s economy and listen to what they had to say.’’
