Tessa Munt MP pays tribute to our troops at local charity ball

Tessa was honoured to be the guest speaker at the ‘Frock Up for Heroes’ charity ball at the Webbington Hotel, near Compton Bishop last Friday evening, where all proceeds went to Help for Heroes.

Organisers John Shaw from Cheddar and Charlotte Grant from Cross put on a wonderful evening which raised around £4000 for the charity. As well as raising lots of money, the event was a celebration to mark the recent safe return from Afghanistan of many local lads from Cheddar and the surrounding villages.

In her speech, Tessa paid tribute to our armed forces and the fantastic work that Help for Heroes does to support our soldiers returning from operations with physical and mental injuries.

Tessa also paid special tribute to local grandfather and co-event organiser John Shaw, who has already raised nearly £100,000 for Help for Heroes through his amazing fundraising efforts. Around three years ago, after beating serious illnesses, John embarked on a journey touring Britain on his bike to raise money for our soldiers and he is still going strong on his tour today. Tessa said “It was great to be asked to speak at this fantastic event and I met many wonderful people. The work our brave men and women do on operations is amazing and it was an honour to be part of the evening to pay tribute and say thank you to them for all they do for us.”
